General notes, tips and tricks

  • Read this complete manual before starting installation. This will give you a better understanding of where to place the different components and the relation between them. The manual covers the components (PV- and PO-numbers) in numerical order, but this is not necessarily the easiest order of installation.

  • Refer to the Boom installation broad acre manual for information on how to install the boom parts.

  • Reminder: BBLeap prescribes a 100-mesh pressure filter.

  • The spray valves are very sensitive for damage by sharp particles. Make sure the whole system is properly flushed before starting installation. Flush the system again after removing old valves or membrane shut-offs and before installing the BBLeap valves. Otherwise sediment from chemicals that has come loose will damage the valves.

  • The installation of PV-0002, PV-0003 and PV-0005 might require the fabrication of custom made brackets or panels. These are not supplied by BBLeap. Make sure to organize these parts in time.

  • Regarding cable installation: first route the cables roughly and connect them according to the schematics. Only start tying them neatly after the ''dry'' part of commissioning has been done. This way progress in installation can be made sooner and critical commissioning/testing steps can be made sooner as well. Cable tying can be done afterwards or when you need to wait for whatever reason. Same applies for cables on the boom.

  • Good luck with the installation and if there are any suggestions on how to improve this manual, please let us know!

Schematic

Installation

PV-0001-IF-0001 - Interface Machine - IO

This topic is regarding the integration with the isobus and the power supply. Cable DR0109 will be used for this purpose. It will be mounted in between the tractor and the isobus cable of the John Deere. The isobus cable of the John Deere has to be pulled backwards. Cable DR0109 will take over this position. One end will be connected to the tractor and the other end will be connected to the John Deere isobus cable.

Connect the other connectors of DR0109 according to the schematic as shown at the start of this article.

PV-0002-MA-0003 - Basic construction IO-front AM
PV-0003-MA-0003 - Basic construction PS Converter

These components can be installed on the underside of the platform in front of the tank. Connect them according to the schematics.

PV-0004-IF-0003 - Interface PS-IO rear 9M

These cables are used to connect the LeapCore, mounted on the lifting frame, with the parts mounted on the front side of the machine. If possible, route the cables together with the existing cable bundle.

Make sure:

  • the cables are not rubbing against anything

  • the cables can not get squeezed or kinked

  • there is enough slack to move the lifting frame

PV-0005-MA-0001 - Basic construction IO-rear 2S (LeapCore)

The LeapCore is already pre-assembled. Mount it on the center boom section. It is mounted on a custom made frame.

Make sure:

  • There is enough room to insert the boom can lines in the bottom of the LeapCore.

  • The LeapCore can not collide with anything when the pendulum of the boom is moving

  • There is enough room to remove the black covers from the LeapCore

PO-0045-MA-0004 - Pressure measurement

The pressure sensor for the water system can be screwed into the center frame of the machine. A reducer from 1/2'' to 1/4'' is required, this one is included in the kit. See the photo below.

PO-0003-MA-0001 - Turn compensation

The IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) can be mounted somewhere near the basic construction IO front. It can be mounted in any direction, but it needs to be in a straight (square) plane. Make sure it is free from vibrations. See picture below.

PO-0046-MA-0003 - Flow measurement

An extra sensor for the flow meter is supplied. It has to be inserted into the flow meter that is already installed, as shown on the following picture.

PO-0047 - Pressure regulation

The original pressure regulation from the John Deere is suitable to work with the LeapBox. This means there are no modifications required.

For changing the droplet size, first select manual rate control on the John Deere EHC-2 control box or on the display. Next, adjust the pressure manually until the desired droplet size is reached. The droplet size is indicated in orange on the BBLeap VT.

It is important to check if the original pressure regulator is in good condition. Make sure responds quickly enough by entering a simulation speed and start spraying. When a large number of sections are opened or closed quickly, the pressure should stay reasonably stable and return to the desired pressure quick enough.

PO-0049-MA-0003 - Main switch

The John Deere master signal will be copied to control the master on the LeapBox. This way only the main switch of the John Deere has to be controlled. The LeapBox will follow simultaneously.

  • Locate the main valve on the left side of the machine, as shown on the picture below.

  • Remove the original cable from the valve.

  • Place cable DR0099_1 in between the original cable and the main valve

  • Connect the other side of DR0099_1 to cable CA75

  • Connect CA75 to IN2 on the front I/O interface module, according to the schematics.

In some cases DR0099_1 does not fit on the main valve. In that case follow these steps:

  • There should be one pin on the valve that is not used. Check which pins it is.

  • Cut off the unused pin from the pressure regulator.

  • Check if the DR0099_1 fits the main valve.

Note: before checking if the master signal is visible on the LeapBox, the signal should be inverted. More info in the chapter commissioning.

Boom installation - section valves

Since the section valves will not be used anymore, they can be opened and disconnected. Make sure the connectors are protected against moisture.

Commissioning

This section will describe which steps have to be done to set the right configuration for this specific machine. For all other configuration settings, refer to the checklist and corresponding manuals via LeapSpace.

Setting the base flow meter calibration and pressure regulation

Before calibrating the flowmeter (if needed), fill in the pulses per liter.

  • [1, Sensor 1]: Enter the standard value of 6540, or the exact value if known. Usually it is written on the label of the flow sensor. Note that the value on the label is in pulses per liter and the value to be entered in webvisu is in pulses per 10 liters, so it should be multiplied by 10.
Another way to check the right pulses is to check the settings of the JD sprayer or by comparing the flow on the John Deere display with the flow on the BBLeap VT, assuming the John Deere is calibrated correctly.

  • [2, Type]: Set the pressure regulation type to [Not Your problem]

  • Press [3, Save] in the right bottom

Activating the master input

This section will describe what to configure in order to let the John Deere switch the master of the LeapBox.

  • Open Webvisu Instructions

  • Go to [Config -> Section]

  • At [Switch input sections] activate the button [Switch input as master]. It will turn light green when active, see picture below.

  • Press [Save]

  • Go to [Home]

  • Set configuration value [2246] to [1] (Master input inverted (from I/O), see picture below.

  • Press [Save]

When the master of the John Deere is activated, the master on the LeapBox will activate simultaneously.
